Forms of self-harm can range from skin-cutting and burning, banging or hitting body parts, interfering with wound healing, hair-pulling, the ingestion of toxic substances or objects, to near suicidal actions. Self-harm is typically engaged in as an attempt to cope with emotional pain, anger, or frustration.
