My name is Noorayne (pronounced Noor-rain). I was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario. I was blessed to have completed my education in both Canada and the USA. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Addiction Studies (Mercy College of Detroit) and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology (University of Detroit Mercy). I also have both a Bachelor and a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies (University of Windsor). I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), a Canadian Certified Addictions Counsellor (CCAC) and a Limited License Psychologist (State of Michigan).
I firmly believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their life. I don’t believe that there is a limit to human capacity. I think the main reason we develop mental health issues including addictions is because they are unhealthy learned behaviors that we have picked up along the way. Which means that I think you can unlearn these faulty behaviours and replace them with healthy ones. I have suffered from severe anxiety, panic attacks and depression and through my own therapy, I have learned how to handle my thoughts, feelings and behaviours and move past them so that they no longer had control over me. I want you to feel the same freedom that I experience every day.
I also believe that every person has the potential for change. I have witnessed powerful healing and growth in my presence. Being a psychotherapist is truly a gift and I feel privileged to help everyone who steps into my office. I believe that therapy should be a safe space that will always remain confidential. I believe that therapeutic relationships are naturally healing. And even though what we talk about is important, I know that the relationship itself does a lot of the work. I believe that being free from mental illness and substance use is a human right. If you are fed up with feeling sick and tired and you’re ready to feel relief, I want you to contact me so that we can work together to create a better life for you.
I have been working in the fields of mental health and substance use including other addictions for approximately 29 years and in private practice since 1995. My specialties include: anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use & other addictions. My therapeutic approach is considered strengths-based: Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). My approach is also client-centred and collaborative.
